3-Pass Loop - Stage 3 - Chalet du Perron / Pic du Mas de la Grave Mountain Hut

This is the third day of the hike, which connects the Chalet du Perron and the Refuge du Pic du Mas de la Grave via the Col de Martignare. It is a physically demanding and technically challenging route, featuring sections off the trail, and offering superb panoramic views of the Aiguilles d’Arves.

This third stage immerses you in the rugged, rocky landscape of the Aiguilles d'Arves. From the Chalet du Perron, the route climbs gradually toward the Col de Martignare, offering sweeping views of the surrounding peaks and high-altitude alpine meadows. The ascent is strenuous and requires good physical fitness. Beyond the pass, the route becomes more alpine, with several sections off-trail despite the presence of trail markers. The terrain, which is sometimes unstable and rocky, requires caution and sure footing. This demanding trek, however, rewards hikers with spectacular scenery and an immersion in a pristine section of the Arvan-Villards Valley. The descent finally leads to the Pic du Mas de la Grave mountain hut, nestled in a remarkable mountain setting—the perfect way to end this active day.
